Discover Reiki

Reiki is an energy healing technique that can promote relaxation, and can reduce stress, and anxiety through gentle touch. Reiki is the use of hands to deliver energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing. Reiki was developed in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui who combined the Japanese term “Rei” meaning universal and “ki” which refers to the life force that flows through all living things.

A Massage Therapist performs Reiki by gently moving their hands just above or on the client’s clothed body, helping reduce stress and promote healing by encouraging a healthy flow of energy. Reiki complements other types of medical and therapeutic treatments, and it can increase the efficacy of other types of healing. Reiki differs from other touch therapies in that there is no pressure, massage, or manipulation involved.

The Different Types of Reiki Healing Methods

There are five different types of healing methods in reiki, including Tibetan reiki, Karuna reiki, Usui Shiki Ryoho, Western reiki and Celtic reiki. Each type of healing has unique characteristics that distinguish it from the other.

For example, Tibetan reiki may carry with it an ability to strengthen your immune system while Western Reiki enhances your intuition. While each type has unique characteristics that define them from other methods, they can all be effective in treating health issues like depression and anxiety.

Tibetan Reiki

Tibetan reiki is a kind of Reiki that has roots in Tibetan Buddhism. It involves healing by focusing on oneself, others, or a specific chakra. The focus can be on health, spirituality, or general well-being. Some practitioners like to combine reiki with other forms of energy work such as acupressure and even acupuncture.

Karuna Reiki

Karuna Reiki uses higher vibrational energy to heal from within, rather than relying on quick or simple fixes. Karuna means compassion or love in Sanskrit, a language used widely in Hinduism. When our hearts become open, there is an innate ability to heal ourselves using our own energetic power—without even realizing it!

Usui Shiki Ryoho

Usui Shiki Ryoho is a form of spiritual healing that dates back to 1924. Practitioners use their hands to apply pressure to different areas of their clients’ bodies that may promote well-being through flow of life energy.

Western reiki

Western Reiki includes four aspects and nine elements, resulting in a complete system that can facilitate the encouragement of growth, healing, and spiritual awakening. This method is specifically designed to help a person come to terms with their past, heal and begin to grow as their own independent self.

Celtic reiki

Celtic reiki method utilizes specific techniques to help in self-healing by stimulating a person’s ability to heal himself. During ancient times, it was believed that Celtic warriors practiced these healing methods before engaging in battles. Today, although you do not have to be a warrior or even engage in any kind of physical combat to benefit from the reiki method, you may still enhance your health and wellness through it.

What to expect during your first reiki session at LaVida Massage?

Reiki sessions vary in length, but they often last between 60 and 90 minutes. You’ll spend the entire session lying fully clothed on a standard massage table. It is recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing for your session. Try to avoid wearing anything tight or restrictive.

During the session, the massage therapist will place his or her hands lightly on or near your body in a series of hand positions, including positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and the feet, as well as other positions based on the client’s needs. Each hand position is held for roughly 3 to 10 minutes, depending on how much the client needs in each position.

Expect to feel deeply relaxed during the session. You may fall into a light sleep, or enter a deep meditative state that helps restore the nervous system.
